Sunny Spain... Who Said That???

After heading south to Spain to avoid the bad weather, we went to the Spanish locals winter crag, El Cogul.

A massive contrast from where we had just climbed in Targasonne, from hardly granite to soft crumbly sandstone. Not to worry thought should be just like back home. We had a few days of getting to know the area and then the rain caught up with us.
Remembering that a friend lives local in Tremp, we made a swift trip to Mackie D’s to access facebook and arranged to visit. The intention was to get some sport routes climbed whilst visiting, but we took the bad weather with us and the rain never let up all weekend. On arrival we were given a guided tour of her ‘mansion’ / guest house, it was tremendous, beautiful rooms and situated in Santa Engracia a climbers dream location. Anyone looking for a Spanish climbing holiday should definitely check it out.

We stayed around for the weekend, catching up and watching the weather forecast. We thoroughly enjoyed a few meals together and a good catch up, but 3 days of bad weather and no climbing had my fingers itching for rock!

Planning to descend back to El Cogul we stopped off at Pont de Montanyana for a highly recommended walk through a gorge. We were not disappointed...
