The hunt for dry rock

Carcasonne
So as we arrived in Carcasonne we were met with a beautiful medieval town situated high up on the hill side. After a few hours of exploring the walls and taking lots of photos, we thought it best to press on to Targasonne. However, after about 40 minutes of guiding Ivan through the twisty back roads in the pitch black we pulled up at a quiet town to get our heads down for the night with the intention of carrying on in the morning.

Back on the road in ice cold temperatures, much to our astonishment within an hour of driving it was 20oC, we had finally found the sun and had high hopes for some dry rock. Meandering through the snow topped mountains of the Pyrénées; Ivan gave us a little scare, threatening to overheat as he powered up the hills. We passed an Audi in a worse situation to us, steam bellowing from its bonnet, with this in mind we decided a half hour sandwich break would be a good idea, giving Ivan the chance to cool.

With eyes on the temperature gage, we made it to Targasonne La Griole campsite shortly after. Remnants of snow and ice underfoot, but dry rock visible and 20 minutes of daylight remaining; we made no hesitation, pads out, shoes on, 1st taste of rock. Only managed 2 problems before darkness settled in, no worries though, head torch on and another 2 down before teatime, including L’oeuil Du Voisin 7c, which I will be heading back tomorrow to video in the daylight.

Feels great to be back on rock :)  tea made, heads down, psyched for a full day tomorrow.
